I received the ECM and TCAI on Wednesday, July 13th and installed them that evening. The install went well and took about an hour total including the security relearn. On my first drive I could tell an immediate difference in that the throttle response was much quicker. The shifting was rough like you mentioned, but slowly improved as the transmission adjusted to the new settings. My first drive back and forth to work, about 46 miles with 38 on the freeway, I got 21.6 mpg based on my on-board computer. I previously got 18.7 mpg the last time I reset the computer and did a back and forth to work check. So far it looks like it could pay for itself in about 1.5 years. I towed our 5th wheel to Bass Lake in the Sierras on Sunday and got 11.8 mpg and had much more power for pulling long grades and for those frustrating times when I had to slow down to 45 and then try to get my momentum back. I have done this trip many times and have never got over 10 mpg. Overall, I was very happy with the results and improved driveablilty while towing. I actually passed someone going 80 mph one time while towing, it went from 50 to 80 much faster than before. I won’t be doing that too often, but it’s nice to know I can. The auxiliary fan usage was cut down about 50% I would guess and I also noticed that when it was running the impact on truck performance was lessened. I also noticed that the transmission had to relearn the shift points in the tow/haul mode.
Overall, I am very happy and have been getting about 20.5 mpg in all around driving, which is an increase of about 17%. Pretty awesome.
